Florian Wirtz to Chelsea? Fabrizio Romano Shuts Down Transfer Rumours as Liverpool Back German Star

Fabrizio Romano has dismissed rumours linking Florian Wirtz with a move to Chelsea. Liverpool remain committed to the German playmaker despite a challenging debut season at Anfield.

Speculation surrounding Florian Wirtz’s future has intensified following reports linking the Liverpool playmaker with a sensational move to Chelsea, where he could reunite with former Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso.

However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has moved quickly to shut down the rumours, insisting there are currently no discussions between Liverpool and Chelsea regarding the Germany international.

Wirtz joined Liverpool in a blockbuster £116 million transfer and arrived with huge expectations after establishing himself as one of Europe’s brightest young talents. Although his first season at Anfield proved challenging at times, the club remains fully committed to the 23-year-old and views him as a key figure for the future.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained that while the relationship between Wirtz and Alonso remains strong following their successful spell together at Bayer Leverkusen, there is no truth to reports suggesting Chelsea are pursuing a move.

According to Romano, Liverpool have no intention of selling Wirtz this summer and believe the upcoming campaign could be his breakthrough season in English football.

The German midfielder recorded seven goals and 10 assists in 49 appearances during his debut season on Merseyside. While those numbers fell short of expectations for a player of his calibre, Liverpool’s coaching staff remain confident that he will benefit from a full pre-season and another year of adaptation to the demands of the Premier League.

Chelsea’s reported interest has also been questioned due to the club’s current recruitment strategy. Romano stated that the Blues are not actively looking for a player of Wirtz’s profile, making any potential transfer highly unlikely at this stage.

With Liverpool preparing for a new era under expected incoming manager Andoni Iraola, attention will now turn to how Wirtz fits into the Spaniard’s tactical plans. Despite questions about whether the midfielder’s creative style suits a high-intensity pressing system, Liverpool believe he possesses the quality and intelligence to thrive regardless of the tactical approach.

For now, Wirtz remains firmly part of Liverpool’s long-term project, and any suggestions of a summer departure appear to be wide of the mark.
