Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has called for “absolute discipline” ahead of Tuesday’s Copa del Rey semifinal second leg, despite holding a massive 4-0 advantage over Barcelona. While the Rojiblancos are on the verge of their first cup final since 2013, Simeone insists the job is far from over against the La Liga leaders.

A stunning first-half blitz in the first leg last month saw Atletico hand Barcelona their only domestic shutout of the season. However, with the Catalan giants scoring seven goals in their last two outings—including a historic Lamine Yamal hat-trick—Simeone remains wary of a “Remontada” at the Spotify Camp Nou.

The Tactical Trap: Neutralizing Lamine Yamal
The primary focus of Simeone’s defensive blueprint is Barcelona’s 18-year-old sensation, Lamine Yamal. Recognizing the winger’s lethal form, Simeone revealed a specific tactical instruction for his backline.

“He is a dangerous individual player, especially in the final stages,” Simeone told reporters on Monday. “Our goal is to put him where he feels most uncomfortable, which is defending. We have to force him back into his own half.”

A Season of Triple Ambition
While Atletico sit 13 points behind Barcelona in the league, the club is enjoying one of its most competitive seasons in recent years. Currently third in La Liga and preparing for a Champions League Round of 16 showdown against Tottenham Hotspur, Simeone expressed pride in his squad’s position.

“In the summer, you always dream of competing for everything in March,” Simeone remarked. “Now we are in a fantastic position, fighting for exactly what we want.”
