Kylian Mbappé travels to Paris for knee injury treatment. Will the Real Madrid star miss the Champions League clash vs Man City? Latest injury updates and recovery timeline.

Real Madrid have confirmed that talismanic striker Kylian Mbappé is currently in Paris undergoing specialist treatment for a persistent left knee injury. While the club and the player’s entourage have ruled out surgery for now, the France captain faces a race against time to be fit for the Champions League knockout stages.

Mbappé, who has been in sensational form with 38 goals in 33 appearances this season, traveled to the French capital accompanied by Real Madrid medical staff. The diagnosis—a sprain of the external ligament in his left knee—follows months of “persistent pain” that began in late 2025.

The Recovery Plan: “Conservative” Over Surgery
In a statement released on Monday, Real Madrid emphasized a “conservative” treatment plan. The goal is to optimize his recovery without invasive intervention, ensuring he returns at 100% capacity rather than rushing back and risking long-term damage.

“It was a consensus between everyone… we think the best thing is that he stops, that he recovers and comes back at 100 per cent. It’s not going to be a question of days; it will be a bit longer.” — Álvaro Arbeloa, Real Madrid Head Coach.

Key Fixtures at Risk
The timing of the injury is particularly brutal for Los Blancos, who are currently trailing Barcelona in the La Liga title race and facing a European heavyweight in the coming weeks.

The World Cup Factor

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicking off on June 11, the French National Team is monitoring the situation closely. Les Bleus open their campaign against Senegal on June 16, and coach Didier Deschamps will be desperate to have his captain fully fit and match-sharp well before the flight to North America.
